Update July 7

Committed hardwood sin again for the kitchen layout. The house screamed back and ate 3 of Rich's saw blades. Granted, they were old and in need of replacing anyway, but the hardwoods gave up the last of the metal teeth on those things. Didn't quite cut through all yet, but gave me enough to do tomorrow, ripping out hardwoods with a wonder bar and hammer. Yay! We're able to save a lot of it . . . here's to hoping we'll be able to re-use it in the kitchen, mixed with some we'll have to find elsewhere.

Brought the cabinets into the kitchen area to make sure the layout was right before we started sawing on hardwoods. I measured correctly!! No disaster on that front. Almost a miracle! And boy will those things look sharp!

Put up hardibacker around the tub surround . . . still have a ways to go. Did the easy stuff today and will try to tackle the not-so-easy tomorrow around all the plumbing fixtures. If I get frustrated, I can just sit on the floor and pound out old nails from the salvaged hardwoods instead. Yay!

Discovered that the build-up of the floor in the guest bath will destroy the idea we had for the threshold. To meet the toilet flange the floor and tile need to come up 1 1/2"!! That old mortar bed was HUGE. Bummer on the threshold thing, but I'd rather throw down some 1" flooring than break into a toilet flange stack and reduce the height and pay the plumber. WAY more costly on the plumbing side.

Made a list of what we still have left to do and we think we need to go ahead and hire an electrician because we're running out of time. Need to pray in the money to pay him!!! Making the list was both cathartic, terrifying, sobering, and enlightening. Not sure which emotion wins out at the moment; we'll see tomorrow how we feel. LOL.

Tomorrow is more hardwood sin, tile prep, and framing prep. Yehaa!
