A fairly slow day, overall . . . dealt with insurance issues, the plumber, and actual job work this morning, all the while battling a migraine.
Decided it wasn't getting worse, so finally headed over to the house (with just a dull thud at that point)
Starting removing electrical boxes and putting wire nuts on everything so Rich can take a wall down behind the master shower. I wanted to start pulling 2 x 4s down from the stud walls as well, but there's either live wire or wire lath on each thing I touched, so i decided to tackle the sea birds instead.
I think the tub installation is actually from the 80s because it was on "wonderboard". Got through some mesh and mortar and realized the mesh was encasing the mortar, so got the wonderbar and a flashlight and pried one whole side of shower away from the studs. Not knowing if i would hit adjacent plumbing, I stopped, again waiting for Rich. This seems to be the theme for me . . . get only so far, and then wait for Rich's muscle (or lack of fear) to take care of the rest.
Measured out the floor (32 sq ft) and linear wall space (19 ft) for the guest bath so we know how much trim and so on to buy. Also figured out roughly how many studs and how much sheetrock we'll probably have to buy to stud out the laundry and kitchen and finish the bathroom. Realized where we'll need extra lights, figured out the size of the laundry room door and whether or not it could swing in, and all that sort of blechy stuff. That's my main role in this . . . planner, project manager, trouble forecaster. Rich is muscle, lack of fear, and ambition. LOL.
Rich got there after work and we removed the whole left panel of tub surround and took it to his truck. Then removed the glass shower door from the master so we could use it again if we wanted (it's newer). Then loaded up his truck with all the kitchen cabinets he's removed so far, so as to empty the garage to prepare to receive more debris. We figured out the landfill is open 7 to 7 Monday thru Sunday (why they just don't say "daily", I don't know) so if we load up the truck every night and either get there before 7pm or go over first thing at 7 am, we should be able to manage the debris fairly well without having to rent a dumpster (another cost we don't want to incur). It feels a bit like Shawshank Redemption . . . chip a little away, hide it in your pants, scatter it at the dump every day when you come out to see daylight, and do it again the next day.
Hunger and headache got to me after that, so I left. Rich is still there, presumably pounding away his frustrations with one person at work, imagining their face on each piece of wood or tile he bashes.
We got our "gift card" today in the mail, and got our 10% off Lowe's coupon the other day, so whenever we have a HUGE chunk of time, we can finally go shopping. I think tomorrow, Rich's day off, he's just going over there to pound the living hell out of some things. I have a closing. Too bad for me. :o)
Nothing else to report. I need a shower. MUCH better day overall today. :o)
