May 23 (reprise - part deux)

So part of why I decided to go ahead and post again (and I am not promising a lot of consistency this time, since we both are working our fannies off in real jobs) is because, oddly enough, we're starting another project! I found it remarkable that I got a note from a parental unit that it's been a year since I posted and it just so happens this past weekend we have started a new project! See below what we've done so far.

What you're seeing is framing for our (GASP!) closet and expanded master bath. We will have to do it in stages, as money becomes available, but we're on our way, and this long weekend we're busting a cap in its A$$. :o) The big area you see is going to be a closet (which is deceptively big--if you throw sheetrock and clothing in there, it'll be TIGHT), and the half-wall you see on the left is going to be a litter cubby. Yes, a litter cubby. It's a floor-to-half-wall "closet" that will house the litter boxes, as well as all things litter . . . litter, scoopers, etc. All will be hidden deftly behind a thick curtain, and will be (we hope) a containment solution for the ridiculous amount of litter that gets tracked around here. Plus the heavy curtain should contain any odiforous deposits until we can scoop. That's the theory.

Behind the litter cubby will be a wall, with our vanity against it. And above the litter cubby will be a recession in the wall behind our mirrors that will contain things that a linen closet should but can't because we don't have enough room for a linen closet.

This weekend, our goal is to rip out the current walls of the bathroom, rip out the vanity/associated plumbing, rip up the floor, remove the toilet, built walls to a poo room, tile the new section of floor around the toilet, install a pocket door to it, re-install the toilet, and get it mostly contained and usable by weekend's end. We will also do a round of sheetrock on the inside of the closet and litter cubby so we will be again isolated from the family room. We figure sharing the poo room with the rest of the house wasn't appropriate.

Yes, we have big plans this weekend. We'll see how far we get. We're both dealing with the sickness of Un-Motivation, which, coupled with an extreme need for a vacation (haven't had one for just the two of us for the actual purpose of a vacation in 3 years), will be our biggest hurdle. However, I'm counting on my Extreme-Need-For-A-Closet to get us through the tough parts and motivate us forward.
